Nishka Umesh Shetty, MD

Dr. Nishka Shetty (pronouns she/her) is a distinguished specialist in Infectious Disease, providing compassionate healthcare and clinical expertise at Kymera Independent Physicians. Her medical journey began in 2010 at Grant Medical College, one of Mumbai, India’s busiest tertiary hospitals. She then served as a Resident Medical Officer at both Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and P.D. Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai.

Dr. Shetty furthered her professional development by completing a three-year Internal Medicine residency at the University of Connecticut. Her dedication to managing socially and medically complex cases, particularly in reducing healthcare disparities with a focus on LGBTQ care, led her to pursue an Infectious Disease fellowship at the same institution.

During her training, she discovered a passion for providing comprehensive preventive healthcare for people living with HIV. Mentored by experienced providers at a busy community care center in Hartford, she gained extensive experience in comprehensive gender health services, including transgender care, hormonal replacement therapy, post-exposure and pre-exposure prophylaxis, travel medicine, outpatient antibiotic therapy, general ID referrals, and care for pre- and post-gender reassignment surgeries. This unique combination of skills makes her one of the few providers in New Mexico who is both qualified and passionate about HIV care, sexual health services, and LGBTQ care.
